South West Garo Hills

Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma In the interest of general public inaugurated the South West Garo Hills  on 7th of August 2012 at its headquarters, Ampati. With the inaguration of South West Garo Hills District the number of districts in the state has gone up to 11(eleven). It is located at the Latitude of 25º27.505 and Longitude of 089º56.456 and is 52 km away from the district headquarter Tura of West Garo Hills District.The South-West Garo Hills is carved out of present West Garo Hills district and the areas under its jurisdiction are Betasing and Zikzak C & RD Blocks, villages from under Garobadha GS circle of Selsella block, Okkapara Songma GS circle and Chengkomgre GS circle under Gambegre block and Dokonggre GS circle under Rongram block.

District at a glance

The South West Garo Hills District comprises all the villages falling under the two Community and Rural Development Blocks, viz. Betasing and Zikzak Community and Rural Development Blocks, including 33 (thirty-three) villages under Mukdangra Gram Sevak (GS) Circle and Garobadha Gram Sevak Circle of Selsella Community & Rural Development Block, 24 (twenty-four) villages under Okkapara Songma Gram Sevak Circle and Chengkuregre Gram Sevak Circle of Gambeggre Community & Rural Development Block, 13 (thirteen) villages under Jarangkona Gram Sevak Circle of Dalu Community & Rural Development Block and Anggalgre village of Rongkhongre Gram Sevak Circle of Rongram Community & Rural Development Block

    The total population of South West Garo Hills is 1,70,794[2] (provincial) as per Census 2011, with 85,872 male and 84,922 female population. The literacy rate of the district is 68.88%.

  • Betasing C&RD Block

    Betasing Community & Rural Development Block

    Betasing Community & Rural Development Block has total population of 93,523 (provincial) of which 46,723 male and 46,800, including the newly annexed villages. The total literacy rate is 70.244% (provincial), of which the literacy rate of male is 76.127% and that of female is 64.409%.

  • Zikzak C&RD Block

    Zikzak Community & Rural Development Block

    Zikzak Community & Rural Development Block has total population of 77,271 (provincial) of which 39,149 male and 38122, including the newly annexed villages. The total literacy rate is 67.214% (provincial), of which the literacy rate of male is 72.493% and that of female is 61.795%.

Celebration of First Aniversary

First Foundation Day 2013

South West Garo Hills

South West Garo Hills celebrated its first aniversary as a district on 7th of August, 2013 at the Ampati Mini Stadium. The rain didn't dumpened the spirit of the people, who attended the celebration in large numbers. The programme was attended by the sitting MLAs of 52-Rangsakona (ST), 53-Ampati(ST), 54-Mahendraganj (ST), 55-Salmanpara(ST), Deputy Chief Minister and other dignataries. The formal program started at 11.00 AM with a welcome Speech by Shri P.K.Boro, MCS, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Ampati followed by other cultural programmes by the Garoes, Hajongs and Koches and others presented by the School Children. The celebration ended with a vote of thanks by Smt. M.T. Sangma, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, Ampati
