South West Garo Hills is dominated by a number of tribes who have their own distinct history, genetic make up, social culture and customs. These features have made this region different from the rest of the state. Three different tribes: Garos, Hajongs and the Koch dominate the demographic profile of District. In line with the overall development of the region, the social and economic status of the people is undergoing a distinct change that is hypothetically bound to have an effect on their health status. The Department of Health & Family Welfare of South West Garo Hills District in its works is committed to cater to the different health needs of the people and community and improve the socio-economic status of the whole district. At present Health & Family Welfare Department of South West Garo Hills is working under the supervision of DM&HO, West Garo Hills.
